It’s going to be an interesting read, and if you’ve had your eyes on this robot vacuum, carefully read my Roborock S5 max review.
There is the Roborock S5, and there is the Roborock S5 Max. As you may guess, the S5 max is the pro version of the Roborock S5 home cleaning bot. It is expected to come with more advanced techs, and fix the little CONs found on the S5 model. We have written a comprehensive Roborock S5 max review, and now let’s see if the S5 max is worth the additional bucks. Typically, the later variants of a product or device perform better. Roborock S5max isn’t so different from other Roborock vacuum cleaners.
Roborock Vacuums Overview
Arguably, Xiaomi has presented us with reliable devices since it came into existence. We have seen many impressive Xiaomi mobile devices and accessories that serve perfectly for their various needs. Roborock robotic vacuums are a product of Xiaomi; Roborock vacuums are Xiaomi’s entry to the robotic vacuum market. Ever since the first Roborock vacuum entered the market and made waves, subsequent models from this brand have always been selling out in the market.
Roborock has provided many homeowners with hybrid vacuum/mop robots that offer the best value for their price tags. The Roborock S5 is one of the brand’s greatest offerings, and now we have the S5 max, one can’t expect less from this vacuum robot.
Roborock S5 Max Review
Having used the old S5 model and saw that it is a decent-enough robo-vac, much expectation is placed on Roborock S5 max. Understanding that irrespective of the price and features of a robot vacuum, it won’t terminate the need for traditional cleaning and mopping (at least once in a while). These robo-vacs have their limitations, but they try their best to help you out to some satiable extent.
With the points made above, here is a comprehensive review of the new Roborock S5 Max, a typical robo-vac with smart features and tech.
Design and Build
Roborock S5 max isn’t different from its predecessor in terms of aesthetics and body design. It maintained the same oval-shaped body, a bulge on the top, the same button placements as it were on the S5, and a similar docking station. This robot vacuum looks stunning in white color finish; the black finish variant looks premium, too. S5 max has a low-profile height and can easily pass under the furniture, beds, and other high profile furniture in the room.
Also, the S5 max comes with a big capacity water tank (290ml). There is no Roborock vacuum cleaner with this size of water tank; it is the biggest so far. Interestingly, this big-size tank didn’t affect the shape of the Roborock S5 max. The battery on S5 max sits under the device, alongside the mopping tool and other components required for this vacuum to mop and sweep effectively. Obviously, the Roborock S5 max beats the Neato Botvac D7 Connected and Roomba S9+ in terms of design. It is a sleek, sturdy, reliable robot vacuum for every home.

Features and Techs
Robot mop * Robot vacuum
Virtual no-go zones * Large water tank
Selective room cleaning * Mobile app support
There are no brand new features debuted on Roborock S5 max; all the features you will see on this new model are also available on its predecessor – Roborock S5. The water tank capacity was increased to 290ml from 150ml; now, the robovac can mop the whole house with a single filled tank. Selective room cleaning is one of the best techs you will find on this robovac. You can set the selective room cleaning via the mobile app; it guides the robot to clean different rooms at different times. For example, you can instruct the bot to clean your siting room by 10 am, clean the kitchen by 12:30 pm, and so one. Selective room cleaning is the tech utilized by Roborock S5 max for setting cleaning schedules.
Anyone that has owned a vacuum robot knows that it is difficult to restrict a vacuum robot from getting into certain spaces while cleaning, however, unless you set up a virtual wall/barrier. S5max supports built-in virtual barriers (activated from the mobile app). Thus, you can restrict the Roborock S5 max from cleaning or mopping some marked spaces in the room.
More other techs are integrated on the S5 max bot for better performance. It is really very smart and intelligent.
Performance and Controls
Power suction (2000pa max) * Extensive controls via mobile app
0.8-inch climbing * Alexa voice commands
Adaptive route-planning * Cyclone filters
The Roborock S5 max performs well on virtually all floors, but its best performance was recorded on hard floors, wooden floors, and tiled surfaces. It also does a great job on rugs and carpet, but not so good when compared with the performance on the aforementioned floor types. This vacuum robot is capable of picking up pet hairs from the floor, as well as getting very close to wall edges and cleaning up the wall ends. It does a good job of sucking allergens into the dustbin. Roborock S5 max comes with a sizable dustbin; you may not need to empty it frequently.
One thing to note about robot vacuums, in general, is that they do not perform very well in their first cleaning job after unboxing. This is because the bot may still be trying to map and understand your room structure and how best to find its way into different corners and rooms.
If you’ve got pets that usually mess up your floors, Roborock S5 max can help to keep the floor neat at all times. The tangle-free brush set sweeps the floor while the bot utilizes low-level suction or high-level suction (depending on the floor) to suck up debris and dry pet foods that are littered on the floor.
Controlling the bot has to be from the app; however, it features a few control buttons on the body. But if you really want to control the performance and movement of this bot around the house, you have to do that from the mobile app. Xiaomi’s Mi app is actually the official mobile app for Roborock vacuums, and it is available on the Android official app store, as well as the Apple app store, for Android device users and iOS device users, respectively.
If you’ve got an Amazon Alexa device (Echo) or a Google Assistant device, you can actually use voice commands to control the Roborock S5 max. As the robovac moves from room to room, the app displays real-time information on the bot’s activities. When functioning on balanced mode, the S5 max bot can run for up to 3 hours; that’s impressive and applaudable.
The navigation system on S5 max is advanced; this bot won’t fall off the cliff or collide with obstacles while performing a cleaning task. More so, the S5 max can climb 0.8-inch cliffs and inclines, thanks to the large wheels and sensors.
This robovac may go up to three times on a particular surface to ensure the floor is well-cleaned.
Battery, Charging, and Docking
5200mAh battery capacity * Up to 3-hour runtime
* Automatic docking * Auto recharge and resume
Similar to the Roborock S5, this “pro” version supports automatic docking and resume function. If the battery runs down while still on a task, the S5 max will get back to the docking station by itself and recharge up to 80% or the percentage needed to complete the task, then resume cleaning from where it stopped. The bot will continue in this manner until it completes the scheduled cleaning task.
Brushes and Filter
The filtration system on Roborock S5 max is advanced. Plus, the main brush is tangle-free and detachable. Roborock S5 max’s brush system promises of 250% more bristles and more efficiency.
Summary on the Roborock S5 max review:
This Roborock S5 max review is written to highlight the important aspects of this vacuum robot. Obviously, this is a home cleaning bot you should consider having in your home. Thanks to the improved features and components, the Roborock S5max excels above the S5 model with a slight 10% gap in overall performance. You can get this vacuum on amazon right now by clicking here!
